Background

In partnership with French social housing provider Un Toit Pour Tous, Celsius Energy has carried out the thermal renovation of the “Le Vulcain” residence in Nîmes, a complex of 133 social housing units. This innovative project features a collective geothermal system for heating and cooling the dwellings, replacing the old oil- and gas-fired systems. The initiative aims to improve the building’s energy performance, reduce CO₂ emissions, and stabilize tenants’ energy bills while ensuring their comfort.

The installation meets a large share of the residence’s heating and cooling needs, leading to a significant reduction in its carbon footprint. Star drilling technology, with its minimal surface impact, made it possible to carry out the work on an occupied site.

Supported by French urban renewal and energy transition incentives, this project highlights the key role of geothermal energy in helping social housing adapt to climate challenges.
